jonah - 3 months old

It's crazy that Jonah already hit the 3 month mark...a quarter of a year!  He is growing up a lot faster than Tobey it seems.  Jonah is just such a pleasant little guy!  Or big guy, depending on how you look at it.  In fact, he was 14 lbs and 4 ozs last week on the day he turned 3 months.  He measured him too, and he was 25.5 inches long!  (Funny story about the day he turned 3 months:  We were on our way to the peds, and I heard Tobey talking to Jonah in the backseat..."We don't know where we are going"..."Don't be scared, Jonah".  I asked Tobey what Jonah was scared of, and he told me Jonah was scared of trees falling down...No Tobey, YOU are scared of trees falling down!)

Anyways, back to Jonah.  Right close to the end of the month, he started reaching for objects!  He loves his links and bouncer chair!  His eyes follow people around the room as they move and as he hears voices.  He is doing pretty well at night.  Sometimes, he only gets up once during the night, but it is usually 2 or 3 times, and then he'll go right back to sleep.  I'm usually only up with him for about 10 minutes.  Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to put himself to sleep which makes first putting him down in the evening difficult and which is probably why he only takes 45 minute naps...usually 5 of them during the day!  (This is what Tobey did too, and I swore I would not rely on sleep crutches this time...but I did!  With Tobey it was rocking, and with Jonah it's nursing.)  But we plan to work on that soon...

Jonah also got baptized this month!  I wish I had pictures, but they are on my in-laws camera.  Hopefully I'll get them soon.

I can't really think of anything else new, but I'm sure there will be more new stuff just around the bend!  Here are some pictures of his third month!

toy train

When Jonah was born, we had Jonah "give" Tobey a present when he came to visit us in the hospital.  Of course the present was a toy train, and all Tobey cared about on his visit was the train.  I don't think he even noticed Jonah.  Tobey took the train home, but after a few days, the train went missing.  No big deal, we said.  Toys go missing at our house all the time, and they usually reappear in a few days.  But months had gone by, and Adam and I kept asking each other if we knew where the train went.  Well, I finally found out. When I took Jonah in to the doctors to get a vaccine, and I took Tobey with us, there was the train in one of the rooms with a stack of play things.  He must have left it there when we took Jonah to the peds for the first time.  I debated whether or not took take it, but I decided just to leave it there.  In fact, this is not the first time we have left a toy at the peds and then found it later.  Tobey left a light-up ball there about 2 years ago and then we found it on the subsequent visit.  Tobey did make a comment about how this was like his train but we didn't know where his was.  Ha!  I'll get a new one sometime and pretend it resurfaced.

old man

The other night at dinner, I was holding Jonah, and Tobey started to point at Jonah and say, "You are an old man!  You are an old man!"  Jonah was laughing, but I think Tobey was actually was trying to insult Jonah.  Adam and I were just cracking up!

weekend visitors

My mom and aunt came to visit last weekend, and we had a great time!  We spent most of the time chillin' at the house, but we also made time to go out to eat, see some model homes, and go shopping.  I sure wish they could have stayed longer!

Mom, me, Aunt Becky (aka Gaby)

I took a picture of my mom in this housecoat because when she pulled it off the rack she said, "Wow, it's a beauty!"  Who says that about a housecoat?

Now Becky, that shoe is a beauty!

big boy bed

Well last night was the first night for Tobey in his new big boy bed!  He did so well.  He didn't get out at all and even called for me in the morning to get him out.  I was nervous about his nap today, but he is in there napping right now and did not get out.  Jonah is doing good in the crib too.  Last night was his first night in there.  He seemed a little freaked by the mobile, but I guess he is over it.  Anyways, I am releaved that we made it through the first night and that it went smoothly.  I know that things still may happen and Tobey may learn that he can get out, but I also know that he can stay in there!

So excited to be hiding under the covers

First night and all tucked in!

brotherly love

this kid is on a roll

This kid is on a roll saying ridiculous stuff.  Today he said to me, "I'll be right back.  I've got some poopin' to do."

smarty pants

Me: I'm tired because I didn't get a nap. And I didn't get a nap because you didn't nap.
Tobey: Mommy, you can drink coffee and take a power nap. I'm okay with that.

tobey's feet

I can't believe Tobey's feet are big enough to wear shoes as big as my hands.

back to the grind...

I've got one sleeping right now (I think...) and one pooping right now (he likes to play independently only when pooping...).  It's been a rough day and a half since Adam went back to work yesterday.  I feel like it is chaos with me just watching the boys.  I wanted my mantra for the first few months of being the mother of two to be "this too will pass."  Instead, it has been something along the lines of "Crap!  What do I do now!"  Being a mom just doesn't come naturally...at least to me.  People say follow your instincts.  Well my instincts tell me to panic.  So I've just been panicking.  Anyways, I think the pooper is done so I'll make this quick.  I just feel that I am always neglecting one or the other.  I feel like a jerk when I leave one to fuss in the crib or the other to sit in front of the tv.  I have no skills to deal with these issues.  Just guilt and panic.  "This too will pass..."

I will say that I successfully took two kids to the grocery store with no issues!  I also have gotten us all dressed two days in a row.  Those are my small victories.
