merry christmas!

Posting this a few days early, but this is our Christmas card.  Merry Christmas!

bittersweet day

Today was the due date of our second child who we've named Adrian Julian, a nice gender-neutral name. The baby passed on May 22, my saint's day, St. Julia of Corsica, so it seemed appropriate to name the baby after her. Adrian was picked because the girl and boy names we had picked out both started with an A.

Today is bittersweet because it is sad to think about how we won't know our baby in this life, but God willing we will know him/her in the next.  God's plan for our baby were better than ours, and we fully accept that.  God blessed us with Adrian Julian for 9 weeks.  How could we be upset about that?  Life is better than no life at all, even if it only lasts 2 months.

Fr. Jack did a memorial mass for Adrian Julian this morning, and the scripture readings could not have been better.  It feels like everything is complete now.  All we have to do is continue on with our lives now in hopes of meeting Adrian one day.

On a side note, I opened up this devotional book that I have this morning, and it included a scripture reading from Blessed Julian of Norwich.

not one, but two presents

I am pretty sure Adam got this on video, but I thought I would write about it just in case he didn't or never uploads it.

We were at my in-laws yesterday to celebrate Christmas.  The highlight of the day was when Tobey opened his gifts.  At first he didn't know exactly what was going on, but he soon got the hang of it.  Eventually, Tobey was asking for more.  When we got to the last gift, we told Tobey that Pops had one more gift for him.  We kept emphasizing "one more", and Tobey was holding up one finger.  As Pops was getting the gift, Tobey starts yelling "Pops" at the top of his lungs, and we were cracking up.  Then we kept telling Tobey he had one more present, and Tobey says "TWO!" and holds up two fingers.

asheville

Adam and I finally went to Asheville, NC!  We have been talking about going there for about 2 years now, so we were so excited that it actually happened.  We found a great deal on Travelzoo for a last minute trip, and since Adam is off for the rest of the year, it really worked out perfectly.

We left on Monday about midday and drove to Waynesville where we stayed. That afternoon we got our tickets for the Biltmore and were able to go to the winery and the stores.  That night we just hung out and enjoyed a night kid-free and duty-free.

On Tuesday, we slept in until about 10am, and we didn't leave out hotel until 11am.  We joked about how that was just like before we had a baby.  We went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and then toured the Biltmore and gardens.  It took us 3 hours to get through the house, but we listened and read everything!

Tuesday night we went to dinner in the hotel for our 3 course meal that was included in our deal.  It was surprisingly good and really made the deal worth getting.

Wednesday, we slept into 10 again and left at 11.  We went out to breakfast and then headed back to Atlanta.  We were pretty anxious at that point to see our little guy.

Here's some pics!

no pjs?

The other morning I went to get Tobey out of his crib, and as soon as I walked into his room, I put my hands around his shoulders to pull him out of the crib. The room was still dark so I couldn't see him too well, and when my hands touched him, I felt his skin instead of fleece. I pulled him out of the crib, and his pjs flopped out after him. His feet were still inside, but he had unzipped them and then pulled out his arms.  Silly boy.

advent time

I haven't forgotten about my blog at all.  I have just been insanely busy between getting ready for Christmas, writing for MC, taking care of a toddler, taking care of a household, and going out of town, which I hope to blog about very soon.  I also still need to work on my history of Tobey;s life.  I think I have only made it to month 6 or something.  Hopefully life will settle down soon....

who do you love

Me and Adam:  Who do you love the most: mommy, daddy, trains, or Jesus?
Tobey: Jesus
Me: I guess we can't complain about that.  At least we didn't lose to trains.

shinanigans

Two nights ago at midnight, Tobey starts screaming.  Adam goes in there, and Tobey says "eat". Adam tells him he can't eat at midnight, and Tobey lays back down.  A few minutes later, he is crying again so I go in there. This time his excuse to get out of the crib is "poop".  I told him I didn't smell any so I knew he didn't go, but I rocked him for a few minutes in the chair.  That is really all he wanted anyways.

okay, so this just happened during tobey's nap

Tobey has started to take 2 hour naps (yay! at 21 months old in case I reference this with my next child), but he just woke up an hour into his nap. Adam went into his room with a cup of milk, and Tobey was standing at the edge of his crib. Adam offered him the milk, and Tobey said "no" and just fell back down and went to sleep.  Weird.

little mr. boss man

I feel like it has been a while since I have written anything.  I know these are just excuses, but we have all been under the weather, and Adam and I have been very busy with various projects and work assignments. And actually, not much has been going on for the most part.

One thing that has been going on is that Tobey has become a little bossy. He is telling everyone, including the dogs, to "go". Sometimes he wants us to leave him alone. For example, we started letting Tobey watch one show, Thomas the Train, and the other day he said to me, "mommy go" and pushed me away. I didn't take it too personally because then he pushed away Miles and told him to go.  I guess he was just trying to focus.

The other time he tells us to go is when he wants us to do something. The other day Adam was stacking blocks for Tobey, and he was knocking them down. When Adam stopped and sat down, Tobey went over to him and was pulling on him and saying "go, go, go" for him to do more stacking. Sometimes Tobey says go, and it is obvious what he wants. Other times, he seems to pull us over somewhere for absolutely no reason other than to boss us around.
