stone mountain

Yesterday, Adam, Tobey, and I went to Stone Mountain.  It'd been years since Adam and I went (I think the last time was with Jessica and David pre-children), and we wanted to take Tobey to do something special before the baby gets here.  We started our day by hiking up the mountain.  It definitely took a little longer with me being pregnant and Tobey being just a toddler, but we surprisingly did well.  Tobey made it about 3/4ths of the way before wanting to be carried.  Adam and I joked about how he was carrying one child while I carried the other, but I think I had it a little easier than he did!  I was surprised that I didn't have too many contractions and that it really wasn't too bad for me at 36 weeks.

So we got to the top, looked around a bit, and took the skyride back down.  We called the skyride a mountain train to make it a little more exciting and motivating for Tobey.  He really didn't know what to think of it and was perhaps a little scared, but he didn't complain.  We then did some walking around and rode the train before having lunch and going home.  Tobey was so tired that he fell asleep in the car and then slept another hour when we got home.  To add to a tiring day, we did a family photo shoot with an old friend of mine that evening and then went to dinner and didn't get home until late.  Poor little fella was exhausted!

Oh, one thing that was funny was that I found an earthworm on our way up the mountain and said something to Tobey.  So he picked up the worm, took it over to the side, and buried it under some pine needles.  He said that he was saving people from the worm and that the worm was taking a nap.  He is really getting into creepy crawling creatures!

emailing

Tobey said he needed to check his email and then he would be done.  Do I say that a lot?

life update

It's been crazy around here so I haven't had a chance to update the blog with all that has happened.  I went to the midwife on Tuesday, and she said she didn't think I'd make it to my due date since I am already progressing towards labor.  She said the head was "right there" and that I was 1 cm dialated, thining, and softening.  And she said I only had to take my blood sugar once a day since I've been doing so well and the baby is a good, normal size.

In other news, Penny still has her staples.  I took her to the vet this morning, but the vet said to keep them in another week just to be sure the incision doesn't split open again.  She has to keep her cone on, but she is allowed to play with Miles as long as she is not playing or running all out, which I doubt she could with that cone on.

Tobey has been saying some funny things, like always.  Yesterday, he told Adam that he "saw some diggers working and some chillin'."  Ha!  I said that once, and now he is saying it.  And then this morning when I took him to mass, during the consecration, I told him that Jesus was up at the altar when Fr raised the host.  When he raised the chalice, I asked Tobey who was up there, and he didn't respond.  So I said, "Is it Jesus?"  And Tobey says to me, "No, it's Fr Jack."  Well, that's correct, Tobey, but not really the answer I was looking for...

I think Tobey is getting more and more interested about his baby brother.  We got everything out and ready, and we got the car seat in the car.  The other night we heard Tobey talking from his crib saying, "Baby boy actually..."  over and over!  I wonder what he was saying!

Okay, I guess that's all I got for now!

35 weeks

no daddy. no talking.

Tobey is supposed to be taking a nap in his crib, but instead, he is just talking.  He must have heard Adam say something to me because we heard him say, "No daddy.  No talking."  Adam thinks he may have said, "Tobey sleeping" after that.

tobey's 2.5 year stats

Tobey went to the drs today for a weight and iron check.  His iron was at 12.8, up from 10.7 six months ago so that was really good news!  He is now 25 lbs (5th %tile) and 37 inches (72nd %tile).  So he has gained 2 lbs and grown 2.5 inches in the past 6 months!  Good job, Tobey!  Keep up the growth!

penny's incision, take two

On Monday evening we noticed that Penny's stitches had started to come undone.  We don't watch her every moment so she must have been messing with them.  But then the next morning, they were almost all the way out.  Of course I started to freak out and took her into the vet.  Good thing we did because when the vet took her to the back and put her on the table to put in some staples, the entire incision busted open.  Apparently the tech freaked out, but better her than me!  But the vet got her all stapled up and sent us home with sedatives and a cone.  The good news is that the tumor was benign and will not return.  The bad thing is we have to start all over waiting for her incision to heal.  So it's been one day...nine more to go.  I'm really glad we have the sedative though.  As pathetic as Penny looks, it keeps her calm and inactive.  I feel like I have 3 kids right now instead of 1!

tobey's first trip to the aquarium

Last Friday, Adam took the day off from work, and we took Tobey to the Georgia Aquarium for the first time.  We are trying to do a few special things with him before the baby is born.  Tobey had a lot of fun, and so did we.  We saw the Dolphin show for the first time, and that was really the only thing that Tobey did not like because it was real dark in the theater and there were lots of loud noises.  Adam and I thought the show was cheesy...we just wanted to see the dolphins do tricks. But anyways...

They make you leave the aquarium by going through the gift shop, and of course Tobey took his sweet time looking around.  He found this bin of rocks, and he started to play with them.  It costs $5 for a bag of rocks so we told him we couldn't buy any.  Tobey had a rock in his hand so Adam got one too.  Somehow they both ended up dropping their rocks.  We found one and put it back in the bin, but we couldn't find the other so we assumed it rolled somewhere.  Turns out it must have fallen into Tobey's pocket or bounced and went in his pocket because we found it later in the day in Tobey's car seat.

Funny side note about rocks...  We went to Outback a few weeks ago with my mom and Becky, and Tobey got a rock outside and placed it inside the restaurant on a window seal.  As we leave, he insisted on getting his rock which he placed back outside with the other rocks.  Last night we went again with Adam's family, and before we even park at the restaurant, Tobey says he wants a rock.  Not sure how he remembered or how he even knew we were at the same restaurant.

Later that day we asked Tobey what his favorite part of the aquarium was, and he said, "the best part was the fishies" and "maybe if there were stunt airplanes we'd go back." Crazy kid.

penny's surgery

This morning I took Penny in to have a cyst removed.  Even though it was a simple surgery, I was a little worried for her.  Here is a picture of her before the sun came up on our way to the vet's:

You can see the cyst on her side just to the right of her brown spot. I dropped her off, and at 11:30 the vet tech called to say that she did real well and that I could pick her up after 2pm.  I kept her there until 6pm knowing that she would be better off there than at home with Miles and Tobey to deal with.  And it was so sad when I picked her up because her incision was so much bigger than I anticipated!  Plus she was shaved (which makes sense), but I guess I was just caught off guard.  The poor girl cried the entire ride home and then for an hour once we got home.  I fed her some rice and dog treats and gave her some pain meds, and she feel asleep soon after that.

The real challenge now is that she needs to stay isolated from Miles.  If her and Miles get together, they'll want to play, she'll injur herself.  She also needs to stay inside and stay inactive.  I have a feeling she'll be crated for about 10 days.  That'll be rough on everyone.  Here is a picture of Miles sitting outside the door where Penny is sleeping.  He wants to play with her so bad!

it's been one wacky week

This has been just a crazy week, and I am so thankful it is Friday!  Tobey was sick last weekend while my family was in town so he didn't get much sleep resulting in a very cranky toddler.  He's been trying to make up for his lack of sleep all week, but sleep begets sleep so the lack of it has resulted in the more lack of it.  Other than it been a rough week for Tobey (and me since my fall allergies have kicked in), here are some of the other highlights:

We got rid of the TV - And we are now a TV-free household.  Adam and I have been talking about this for a long time, and we finally bit the bullet.  We don't watch a lot of tv so it won't be a huge adjustment for us, plus we can pretty much watch anything we want on the computer.  In addition to not really watching much tv, we could really use the space by getting rid of the tv.  It essentially adds a whole new room to our house.  Once we figure out how to reconfigure our living room, I'll post pictures, but I'm thinking it will be a play area.

Last gymnastics class - I got a deal on Living Social for 5 toddler gymnastics classes, and Thursday was our last class.  He always said that trampoline was his favorite event, even if we didn't do trampoline.  This week he got to do headstands and then he played with a parachute...he loved doing both!  Wish I had pictures, but we weren't allowed to take pictures during class.  :(

Got locked out - Yesterday, I left Tobey in the house while I ran outside to get the mail real quick.  Big mistake.  I got back to the front door, and he had locked it!  I was yelling so loud to encourage him to unlock the door that my neighbor from across the street came to try to help me.  Tobey just laughed and laughed, and luckily he stayed near the door where I could see him (our door is glass).  Eventually, he started to say, "mommy, come back in.", and when I couldn't get in, he started to cry.  In fact, he was just wondering around crying and then sat at the door and cried.  Adam was able to come home pretty quickly, but all in all, Tobey was locked in the house by himself for about 30 minutes!  I'll need to hide a key outside.

Last thing - Today after Tobey's nap, he went into the garage, got in the car, and sat in his car seat.  I asked him if he wanted to go somewhere, and he said the store.  So I asked what store, and he said the toy store.  I told him we could go to the library instead, and he seemed really happy about that.  So we head to the library, but it was closed.  Poor Tobey was so upset that tears were streaming down his face.  Poor little guy.

Happy weekend!

my favorite gdm snack

Since I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I've had to eat a lot of snacks.  I don't really mind eating the same thing over and over, but I try to mix it up a little.  The other day I mashed an avocado and then added salsa and cheese and then ate it with tortillas.  It has become my favorite GDM snack!  Unfortunately, it gives me bad acid reflux...

jason and shelby's wedding

This past weekend we went to Jason and Shelby's wedding, and Adam was one of the best men.  My mom and aunt came up to babysit while we were at the rehresal dinner and at the wedding.  Adam and I got a hotel room so that we could have one more night out before the new baby joins us.  Jason and Shelby had a nice ceremony at St. Margurites and then a reception at Sugarload Country Club, which will be the only time in my life that I'll be allowed back there.  Here is the only picture I have so far from the wedding, but if I get more, I'll post.

car parts quiz

Just got completely drilled by Tobey on the parts of a car:
Tobey: What's that thing called?
Me: A bumper
Tobey: What's that thing called?
Me: Umm...the body of the car?
Tobey: What's that thing called?
Me: Ask your dad
