this kid

Not sure why he likes to lay down and play like that.  Too cute.

future engineer

Tobey:  What will Jonah grow up to be someday?
Me:  Well, he'll grow up to be a man, just like you.
Tobey:  I want to do the kind of work that daddy does when I grow up.
Me:  Daddy is an engineer.
Tobey:  (Confused)  Where are the trains?

A little later the future engineer tells me on the drive to chic-fil-a that he is going to practice not sucking his thumb because he won't be able to suck his thumb when he grows up.  yay!

lunch

Pictures from lunches last week:

where there's a will, there's a way

A few weeks ago we gated Tobey's bedroom door, for various reasons.  It's been really helpful, and everyone, including Tobey, has been happy about it.  We put two gates, one on top of the other So Itd be taller.  I had always feared that tobey would try to climb over the gates.   It'd never crossed my mind that tobey would disassemble his gate and go through it.

tobey quotes scripture

Tobey missed chapel at school on Tuesday because he missed school, but Adam and I went because it was a day that parents could come to chapel.  Tonight as I'm tucking Tobey in, he asked me what I learned about Moses at chapel.   I told him about how God guided his people with a cloud during the day and fire at night and about the whole manna thing.   Then he asked what else, and I said "We can give thanks to God for he is good."  (That is their bible verse this month -psalm 136:1)  then Tobey says, "no, mommy!   It's 'Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good'."

seventh anniversary

Happy 7th anniversary!  Since our anniversary is today on a Monday, we went to bunch yesterday at the Sun Dial.  We've been there several times and love it.   This time though, I was watching a balloon floating way up in the sky and got real dizzy, almost to the point of fainting.   It seriously took the rest of the afternoon to recover.   Here is  a picture of the donut holes we get as an appetizer.   Probably should have taken a picture of us!

i am NOT tired!

noodle head!

mommy/tobey date at the train museum

One of our favorite places to go is the Southeastern Railway Museum!  It's amazing that we have that only 20 minutes from our house.  The last time we went, it was a few days before I gave birth to Jonah.  This time it was just Tobey and I who went.  I told him he could pick between Catch Air, swimming, or the train museum for our mommy/tobey date, and this is what he picked.  I've been trying to do a special day for just me and Tobey since Jonah was born once a month.  We always have so much fun together.  And it is not stressful at all for me because all my attention is focused on my one child.  Life is certainly better with Jonah, but doing things with just Tobey brings me back to a simpler time.  It was a little nostalgic.  I'm sure one day when we have more children (if God wills it), then I'll think its nostalgic to take Tobey and Jonah somewhere!  Ha!

Here are some of my favorite pictures from our day out yesterday.  We were pretty much the only two people there.  I wasn't going to get him anything from the gift shop, but when we went in there, he wanted a 99 cent eraser that was in the shape of a train.  Okay, I can handle that!  In addition to the museum's normal exhibits, there was a big model train set up in honor of national model train weekend so the guy turned it on just for us.  Tobey stared at it for 10 minutes.  We finished up our day with lunch at Panara.  I can't wait til next month's mommy/tobey date!

Workin' his favorite steam engine

Tobey said to me as he was walking down the hall of this sleeper car, "Nobody knows we are in here!"  My thoughts exactly!  It was really dark in there, but with the camera flash, you can't tell.

The chairs looked refurbished on this one.  If you look hard enough, you can see Tobey looking out a window.

Driving a bus.  There are also many old buses at the train museum.  He was totally into those this time.  I think he was too spooked to go on some of those dark, old train cars after that scary sleeper car...ha!

Instacollage of our day

Finally used the burnt setting on Instagram.  Perfect!

quiet time

or not so quiet time.  I'm finally sitting down at a quarter to 3 having lunch...or eating random things out of the fridge, actually.  Jonah is talking from his crib, and Tobey is watching tv.  I've started letting Tobey was 30 minutes of tv after he spends 30 minutes quietly playing in his room.  It's not really quietly playing though.  Today I heard him say, "You are a smart car.  You are a smart car.  You really, really are."  Not sure if he meant a smart car or a "smart car", but it's so much fun to listen to him!

BTW, Jonah's first tooth broke through today.  It's the top left one.  I *think* the bottom right one is on the verge of popping through as well.  I can't wait to see what this kid will look like with teeth!

technically we do look like each other

Adam uploaded this picture of us to Facebook, and it wanted to tag my sister.   Ah, face recognition.  It's pretty amazing.  This cracked us up.

like an old couple...

... arguing about how to take a picture

date night - go jackets!

and we have a walker!

Well not quite but Jonah did take his first steps this morning!  He was standing next to the couch but wanted to play at the train table so he took the four baby steps to get over there.   It was pretty cool that it happened that way because me, Adam, and tobey were all here to witness it.

standing independently

Jonah stood up by himself today for the first time!   He's been pulling up and letting go for about 2 weeks now, but today he was sitting and then stood up unassisted.   I thought he was about to take a step!   Not quite yet but it'll be soon I think.
