diy train picture
I was working on this diy train picture for a couple of weeks, and we finally got it hung up this weekend in Tobey's room. What I did was tape out the shape of each train car, have Tobey paint over each canvas (with my help), then I took off the tape and put on the embellishments. I'm very happy with the results. And hey, if it is not perfect, I'll just say a 2-year-old did it.
a real toy garbage truck
This is what Tobey picked out for his birthday gift card from his great grandma Eileen. Garbage trucks are his favorite thing right now.
rolling over and eating
Jonah rolled over for the first time today while not in a swaddle! He is also loving eating solids! He had 3 (small) helpings of rice cereal tonight. After I finished his first helping, he was looking around and trying to get more food. Same thing happened after the second bowl. I thought he was going to flip out of his bouncer because he was so excited over it. He has learned how to take a spoon very quickly. I think it was not even a week ago that we tried food for the first time. We've also done avocado, but now that he is doing better with the spoon, we'll have to try it again. Tomorrow he is getting sweet potatoes! Love him!

jonah - 4 months old
It's crazy to think that Jonah is already 4 months old! He is such a sweet, happy, easy baby! Thank goodness! Tonight I unswaddled one of his arms to try to make the transition to not being swaddled. He is trying to go to sleep, but I can see on the monitor that he is not quite sure what to do with his free arm. But he is not complaining...he is just trying to figure it all out.
And now he is asleep! What a sweet boy!
So Jonah at 4 months:
Weight - 14 lbs 15 oz (52%tile) - I had guessed 15 lbs!
Height - 25.4 in (69%tile) - I think he is taller than this because it didn't look like he was completely straight when being measured.
HC - 41.4 cm (28%tile)
During this month Jonah started grabbing and playing with toys and laughing out loud. He also rolled over a couple times during the night, although I have not seen him do it during the day. He continues to follow objects around the room with his eyes. He talks and talks and talks baby talk! And something he has done just in the past few days is start to blow raspberries. When I do them, I can see him watching my mouth. He continues to love bathtime and is still a great nurser. And he always does a great burp afterwards (Tobey never burped).
Once again I'm a little disappointed in how few pictures I took this month. I'll have to try to do better next month.

nothing says love quite like crackel barrel
...I mean Cracker Barrel. Oh, and 3 out of 4 family members being sick. The last few days have been full of surprises. On Wednesday, Tobey got pretty sick. It was his first stomach virus, but he took it like a champ. He started with a runny nose and cough, and then in the afternoon, he started to get a fever. We were supposed to have a play date, but I saw him just laying on the ground, like he was real tired. So I cancelled the play date and took his temp. He had a low-grade fever so I put him in my bed with the laptop and a movie. When the movie was almost over, he got up so I thought he was better, but then he threw up on the side of the bed. I guess he didn't know what was going on. After that he got sick about a half dozen times, and was not talking at all. He was so pathetic. But that was the worst of it. He woke up in the night with a fever, but he was fine after I gave him some IBprofan.
The next day was Valentine's Day, and Adam and I were not planning to do anything, but Adam's mom offered to babysit. Since we didn't have any reservations, we thought we'd go somewhere that would most likely not have a wait...Cracker Barrel. Love that place!
But Friday sickness struck our house again. This time it was me and Jonah. Runny nose, slight fever, achie-ness...no fun. Poor Jonah had no clue what was going on and would not sleep in his crib by himself. Adam and I pretty much held him all night. And since I was (and still am) sick, it was pretty much awful. I'm hoping for a better night for all of us tonight. (Oh, and Tobey fell out of his big boy bed too. But he pretty much slept through it because he went right back to sleep. I doubt he even remembers.)
Ok so back to happier things...Adam had two surprises for me on Valentine's Day. #1: He came home for lunch and gave me flowers and chocolate. #2: He had this card sent to me. :)

ash wednesday 2013
Turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel. Remember you are dust and to dust you will return.
I really wanted to add a meme here of the success kid saying, "Went to Ash Wednesday mass, got a perfect ash cross." But I can't seem to download and upload it, so here is the link: http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/369mh2/.
Hoping for a good lent this year. I'm giving up Facebook, and Adam changed my password so I can't get on. Tobey hasn't asked to watch videos all day so I'm pretending that he gave up YouTube! :)

garbage boy
All day today, Tobey played "garbage truck". I ripped up a bunch of pieces of paper, and he moved them around in his trucks saying that they were garbage and he was taking them to the landfill. Here is a picture of him playing, and I swear we don't starve this kid or anything.

tobey's naps...
...are pretty much non-existent. For the first few days that he was in his big boy bed, he did fantastic! But then he figured out that he was free. The first thing he does when I leave his room after putting him down for a nap is open his curtains and blinds. I didn't even know he could open blinds! He sometimes even tries to make a break for it and runs through the house. Every 3 or 4 days though, he'll completely pass out from exhaustion. We've tried a few things to keep him in, but we need to try more. Tobey gets so tired that he is in constant meltdown mode. He isn't even eating dinner some nights because he is just that tired. I have hope that something will work.
In other news, or maybe along the same lines as the meltdowns, Tobey had earned 2 mini cupcakes for being good at mass and while Adam went to confession yesterday. He got to eat one right away but the other one was for after lunch. He told Adam he wanted to share it with me. When we got home, Tobey busted into tears because he wanted me to have the cupcake right then! It was so sweet. Lately he's been so challenging to handle, but it certainly is endearing when he shows me affection in that way.

jonah's new tricks
Jonah's been up to a few new things lately. The other night at 3am, something was telling me to go check on Jonah. So I walk into his room, and I see that he had gotten his arm out of his swaddle and had rolled over! The look on his face was "what just happened?!" I think he may have been trying to suck on his crib sheet too. The next morning he was trying to flip over again. It's been several days now, and he hasn't rolled over again, but I'm sure he will soon.
Since that night Jonah keeps getting out of his swaddle. It was almost as if he wasn't waking up because he was hungry but because he got an arm out. Then I realized that he was too big for his swaddle! So I moved him into a bigger swaddle blanket. We'll see what happens! He has been doing GREAT naps though. He'll put himself to sleep and then sleep 2 to 3 hours.
Jonah has also been able to grab a hold of toys better. He was playing around with a box the other day, and Adam and I were just laughing about it. He's been laughing as well, and there is something really infectious about his laugh. I've got a video so I'll try to post it.
He's such a happy baby and such a joy for our family!

Jonah is 3 and a half months, and last night he slept all night with only a dreamfeed!

oh, kids and sleep
Two weeks ago we switched the boys rooms and beds, and since then sleeping has been kind of crazy for both of them.
Jonah - Jonah started this thing where he'll wake up 45 minutes after being put to bed. Then he'll want to be nursed back to sleep. Then he would wake up a second time immediately after being put down and want to be nursed again. Usually he'd sleep after that for about four hours, but then he'd wake up a couple more times after that. Ug. And naps became a predictable 45 minutes, but he would take 4 or 5 of them in one day.
I felt like I was being had at night, especially because he would nurse about two sips and then go back to bed. So to fix all his night issues, we started the sleep lady stuff. Tonight is the second night, and so far so good. Last night was bad so hopefully that was the worst of it. His naps were great today so hopefully if the night gets sorted out, his naps will too. He's a smart kid. He'll get it. Tobey got it by night 3 so I think Jonah will too.
Tobey - Now he is the more difficult one. He's doing great in his bed at night, but he is no longer napping and is miserable by about 4pm everyday. He doesn't leave his room, which is good, but he's all over his room going crazy. I tried to put him back in bed every time he got out, but with Jonah to take care of, that was nearly impossible. I'm thinking about putting him in his pack 'n play and see what he does.
Here is a picture of exhausted Tobey at dinner the other night:
We'll get it figured out. We always do. I feel sorry for the kid. It's been a rough couple of months and not taking naps is making it even harder. I'm starting to brace myself for the terrible three's!
