jonah's fifth month (Feb 17 - Mar 17)

I'm really behind because it has been almost 2 weeks since Jonah turned 5 months old.  I remember that 5 months was a turning point with Tobey, and I think it is a turning point for Jonah as well (except that our trip to Florida kind of messed him up).  He seems like he is finally falling into somewhat of a routine of a morning nap, an afternoon nap, and sometimes a third nap.  This month was also when Jonah started solids.  So far he has seemed to like everything we have given him, including the dreaded peas.  He's also become interested in playing with his feet...I've even seen him suck on his big toe.  I still need to get a picture of that!  I've gotten some good videos of him so I'll try to upload them at some point.  For now, here are his fifth month pictures:

pope watch 2013

Tobey was on "Pope Watch" waiting for the white smoke.  I told him that white smoke meant we have a pope and black smoke meant we didn't have a pope.  He seemed very interested in this, and for the next few days he talked about it.  It think he watched for about 5 minutes before getting bored and giving up.  Also, when there finally was white smoke, I asked Tobey who he thought would be pope, and he said, "Pops!"  Good guess, Tobes.

jonah eating food video

Here is a link to see Jonah eating food.  Adam has posted a couple of good videos recently.

dog treats

The other day I was changing Jonah because of a diaper leak, and I heard some growling out in the living room.  So I put Jonah down and went out there.  I could not believe what I saw!  Almost an entire costco size box of dog treats had been dumped out on the floor outside the pantry.  Miles was just going to town.  The growling must have been the dogs arguing over the treats.  I would have taken a picture of all the dog treats everywhere (because they were EVERYWHERE), but I didn't want Miles to eat himself to death (because he would).  And who was the culprit of all this?  TOBEY!  And as I am putting the treats back the box as quickly as possible, he was taking them back out again.  That kid!  So mischievous.  And this is why I have to have an eye on him at all times.  Or both eyes really.

how cute is this boy?

sleep rules

I made this poster to put in Tobey's room.  Hopefully it will help with naps and with going to sleep at bedtime.  He's gotten much better with being in the big boy bed, but hopefully this will make him even better.

miles is now tobey's dog

...I wish that were true then Tobey could take care of him!  But Tobey does love Miles a lot and tries to play with him all the time.  Today he told me he was going to play "Ring the Gack" with Miles (which is something from the book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish).  Then we were listening to a song that was saying, "5 miles from home, 4 miles from home,...", and Tobey thought they were talking about our Miles.  Silly kid!  He tells us all the time how Miles is his dog.  So cute!

costco adventure

Even though is it really cold today (36 degrees in my car...hopefully last cold day), I decided to venture out to Costco this morning with the boys.  I told Tobey that we needed to get some diapers and wipes and that we would look around for a little bit.  It had been a long time since I had been there, so when I went over to the area where the diapers and wipes used to be, they had moved.  I was narrating what I was doing, like always so that Tobey and Jonah are exposed to as many words as possible, so I must have said that I didn't know where the diapers and wipes were.  As we are walking around looking, Tobey all of a sudden asked an employee, "Where are the diapers and wipes?"  I was shocked!  First of all, I never said we needed to ask someone so he came up with the idea to do that all on his own.  Secondly, he had the confidence to do so.  Tobey then listened to the man's reply and told me we needed to go to the back of the store for them.  Wow, I have a smart and confident kid.

tobey's first trip to the dentist

Tobey did amazing at his first trip to the dentist.  While there were a couple other kids screaming, Tobey was as cooperative as he could have been.  Usually they only look at a kid's teeth the first time they come, but the hygentist was able to do the entire cleaning, flossing, and fluoride.  That was done in the hygentist's lap, but when the doctor came to check his teeth, he actually got into the chair (they had a tv up above playing Cars).  The only concern was that he is getting buck teeth due to his thumb sucking.  Our hope is that the thumb sucking will improve once Gee starts staying in his bed, which we plan to accomplish sometime before he starts preschool in September.  When he was all done, he picked a little monster truck from the toy box...little monster truck haha!

Tobey, I am so proud of you for being such a good boy at the dentist!  You amaze me every day!  <3 <3

tobey is three!

Tobey turned 3 last Tuesday.  It is still unbelievable to me that three years have passed since the most wonderful little boy came into the world!  Tobey proves to be an intelligent little goofball.  He's the kind of kid that you just want to be around.  Sure he has his moments, but most of the time, he's just trying to get me to laugh.  I wish I could remember every thing that he says because most of it is hilarious.  Just yesterday he told me that a certain song was a good dance song...that cracked me up.  I love hearing him call me from the other room, "Mommy!"  He sounds like such a little boy now, and he gets so excited to show me what he is up to.  Recently he has gotten into puzzles (24 piece jigsaws), hiding under his bed, and of course garbage trucks.  I can't imagine my life without my son, and I'm so grateful to be his mom.

Tobey went to the ped the other day, and for three years old:

Weight: 27.4 lbs (8%tile)
Height:  37.5 inches (47%tile)
BP:  92/50 - I had no clue that they started to do BP at 3 years old.  He was so good when they took it too.

So the kid is really healthy even though he looks like a stick figure.  He's picky, but he loves his sweets, especially chocolate.  He gets that from me.

Before I do pictures, I wanted to start doing a series of questions each year to document for Tobey his childhood favorites.  Here my interview with a three-year-old:

1. What is your favorite color? orange
2. What is your favorite toy? big garbage truck
3. What is your favorite fruit? apple
4. What is your favorite tv show? Thomas and Friends
5. What is your favorite thing to eat for lunch? train peanut jelly sandwich
6. What is your favorite outfit? just my jams
7. What is your favorite game? puzzles
8. What is your favorite snack? apples
9. What is your favorite animal? giraffes
10. What is your favorite song? I've been working on the railroad
11. What is your favorite book? Journey Home from Grandpa's
12. Who is your best friend? Cooper (and Daddy and Jonah)
13. What is your favorite day of the week?  Tuesday (because the garbage trucks come)
14. What is your favorite thing to do outside? playing with my dump truck
15. What is your favorite drink? Gatorade and milk
16. What is your favorite holiday? birthdays (because there is cake and ice cream)
17. What do you like to take to bed with you at night? Gee (and my blanket)
18. What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast? cereal with milk
19. What do you want for dinner on your birthday?  mac and cheese
20. What do you want to be when you grow up? an orange monorail

And now for some pictures.  It feels like it's been a long time since I have posted pictures of Tobey so these are really just highlights.

Sorry, Tobes, your wish is not coming true this year.  Took you about 10 tries to blow out your candles.

Such a sad face!  Wants to open his presents on the floor and not at the table.

Gift from Mr. Kenneth
No need to open up other gifts.  He likes this.

Really into puzzles right now.
