I'm not a fan of co-sleeping. I don't care if other people want to co-sleep, but I don't. I like my space way too much. But for the first 6 weeks of Jonah's life, he slept at night on me. Every night we slept on the couch, me on my back and him on top of me. And he would nurse on and off all night long.
Well at 6 weeks we decided to do something about it. I spoke through Facebook with a gentle sleep training consultant who was trained by "The Sleep Lady" about getting Jonah down to sleep. She said to put him down at bed time (not naps...do that at 4 months) drowsy but awake, and if and when he cries, sh-sh and pat him. So last night that is what we did. It took about an hour to get him down at first, and then he woke up once or twice at non-feeding times, and Adam had to sh-sh and pat him for a minute or two. Tonight, it took me maybe 20 minutes to get him down. YAY! I'm hoping he'll start sleeping for longer periods of time now that he is, I'm guessing, 12 lbs about. And 6 weeks is usually when babies start sleeping 4 to 6 hours at night. Hopefully it's just around the corner for us!
