wounds and the er

We had quite an eventful day yesterday.  Tobey was in the nursery at church while I was teaching at Catholic Camp, and when I went to pick him up, he was crying a little bit, but it was passed his nap time so I didn't think much of it.  He was sucking his thumb and when we got to the car, I told him to pop his thumb out.  When he did, I noticed a very scary wound in the crook of his arm.  I flipped out.  It looked like a hole in his arm, like a huge laceration.  So I ran back inside with him to ask what had happened.  No one knew or saw hit happen!  My guess is that after he injured it, he put his thumb in his mouth so it would have been difficult for anyone to see he was hurt in the crook of his arm.

Some very kind people helped me find a nurse who we know who goes to our church.  Luckily she hadn't left and was kind enough to help.  After we cleaned it out, it didn't appear to be an open laceration, which was strange.  It was a very weird-looking boo boo, almost like his skin was pinched.  The nurse got him all fixed up, and we headed home.

Unfortunately for me, Tobey fell asleep in the car so he didn't take an afternoon nap.  However, he was acting normal so I was happy about that.  So we went grocery shopping, and as I was putting away the groceries, Tobey started screaming.  I ran to him and picked him up, and his face was covered in blood!  I cleaned it off, and he had a huge gash on his forehead.  So we immediately jumped in the car and went to the ER.

Tobey was so brave the entire time.  He barely cried, and just kept sucking his thumb.  He sat very still in my lap while being examined.  Fortunately, the doc was able to glue together his forehead wound so he didn't get any stitches.

Needless to say, it was a long and stressful and emotional day.  We did clean out the arm wound again, and the skin was broken, so it must have been opened up under where the skin was bunched up.  But both wounds should heal, and we'll do our best to avoid scares.  Here is a picture of his head after it got glued.
